PORTFOLIO DIALOGUES

Upcoming Portfolio Dialogues: to be announced soon

JOIN UPCOMING DIALOGUES

The Portfolio Dialogues invite distinguished composers and performers to unfold a body of work in sustained conversation with selected cohorts of young and emerging practitioners.

A portfolio is read not as a chronology of achievements but as the working grammar of a practice. Completed works appear alongside projects still taking shape. Earlier solutions return as new problems; technical limitations acquire aesthetic necessity; abandoned procedures become newly relevant; unanswered questions migrate from one work into another.

Scores, recordings, sketches, instruments, technologies, rehearsal materials, working procedures, and production contexts serve as primary materials of inquiry.

The dialogue brings three registers into relation: the artist’s account of intentions and decisions; the procedures and conditions through which the work was made; and the formal properties and perceptual effects of the work itself. It asks where these registers corroborate, complicate, or contradict one another—and what becomes perceptible only through questions posed by another practitioner.
